Services
The Homeless Program provides up to 45 days of free child care for children between 2 months and 5 years of age, who are residing in one of the participating homeless shelters or transitional housing in Pinellas County. The children referred to our program should not be attending Pinellas County Schools.
Children in the program are placed in a licensed, high quality child care setting close to the shelter where they live. While in child care, the children receive breakfast, lunch, and a snack. They participate in developmentally appropriate activities, and have daily naps and outdoor time.
In addition to child care, parents in the program receive outreach services, access to community resources, information on available child care subsidies, referrals to unemployment and training opportunities, affordable housing, supportive counseling and parent education.
Mission Statement
To provide quality child development and supportive services to low income, at risk, and homeless children and families, while encouraging healthy family practices.
History
The Homeless Program began in 1991 as a collaborative effort of Clearwater / Dunedin Junior League and Community Pride Child Care, Inc. The Junior League supported the program for 5 years. The Juvenile Welfare Board (JWB) became involved in 1993.
